Assignment #4

Assignment 4  Asymmetrical collaged composition.   Due Oct 16

Purpose: To create an asymmetrical composition with strong unity using tension, compression and isolation to create a focal point as well as move your eyes around the composition.

Part. 1: Choose a theme: an object, people, animals, etc.   These could be from magazines or drawn and repeated through photocopying.  They should have a range of values.  Use no color or keep color to a minimum.

Keep in mind this is a design not a story or a picture in the traditional sense.

Arrange your composition before you get started.  It should have good asymmetrical balance and should use value to create unity through all the layers of space (figure ground reversal).  It should have an integrated focal point and use the tension and compression of objects to create an interesting design.

Consider the background as part of the design.  Shapes of solid tones or texture can be applied to the background.

Part 2:  Using cut paper create your design being careful with the craftsmanship of cutting and gluing.
